Tournament officials have announced the seeds and main draw for the upcoming 127th Annual Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Tennis Championship. The tournament, the second-oldest tennis event in the United States, will be played March 3-6 at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, 2000 Spindrift Dr, La Jolla, CA 92037.
Using a dual seeding format, tournament officials seeded the top 16 collegiate doubles teams and the top 16 independent doubles teams. The top-seeded collegiate doubles team is Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe, a pair of All-Americans from Oklahoma State University. Cash and Kadhe are ranked No. 15 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association doubles rankings.
The top-seeded independent doubles team is Krzysztof Kwinta and Bojan Szumanski, two college coaches with teams playing in the Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship. Kwinta, associate head coach at the University of Southern California, is a former All-American at the University of California, Los Angeles. A native of Poland, Kwinta is a past member of the Polish Davis Cup team.
Szumanski, also a native of Poland, is assistant men’s tennis coach at Rice University. Following his collegiate tennis career at Texas Tech University, Szumanski reached career highs of No. 574 in doubles and No. 905 in singles on the ATP World Tour in 2009. A former Pacific Coast Doubles champion, Szumanski teamed with Gustavo Gonzalez to win the title at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club in 2014.
“The Pacific Coast Doubles Men’s Championship is a unique event with a large field of over 250 collegiate players and independent competitors, all in the same draw,” said Tournament Director Bill Kellogg. “We are delighted to offer fans a great opportunity to watch a very high level of competitive doubles matches throughout the four days of the tournament.”
The following NCAA men’s tennis teams have entered the tournament: Baylor University, Boise State University, Boston College, Bryant University, Claremont-Mudd Scripps College, Furman University, Georgetown University, Oklahoma State University, Pepperdine University, Rice University, San Diego State University, University of California Berkeley, University of California Davis, University of California Irvine, UCLA, University of California San Diego, University of Nevada Las Vegas, University of San Diego, USC and Villanova University.

Named “Club of the Year” for 2011 by the San Diego District Tennis Association and one of the “Top 50 Tennis Resorts in the World” by Tennis Resorts Online, the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club’s reputation as a top tennis destination started when it attracted its first major tournament – the Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship in 1942. The tournament is one of the five-oldest tennis events in the world and the second oldest tennis event in the United States. First held in 1890 at The Hotel Del Monte in Monterey, California, the event was created to promote the sale of real estate on the Monterey peninsula. The original concept pitted the best players from the East versus those from the West. This coast-to-coast rivalry was the inspiration for the Davis Cup. Past winners of the Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship include Jack Kramer, Ted Schroeder, Bobby Riggs, Pancho Segura, Don Budge, Tony Trabert, Stan Smith, Bob Lutz, Arthur Ashe, Dennis Ralston, John McEnroe, and many other world-class champions.
The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club will also be hosting the USTA National Hard Court Championships for Women’s 50-90 age groups and La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club Hard Court Tournament for Men’s 60-85 age groups on Monday, May 9, through Sunday, May 15.
