Canadians apparently can’t wait for a return to Davis Cup World Group play in 2012, with the February 10-12 first round tie against visiting France already a sellout and a guaranteed financial success
The flag-waving ambience in one of the few hockey venues available in the middle of winter will be one-way traffic for the home side in far western Vancouver. The nine-hour time change from Europe will not be any help to the French, but some of the players could well be commuting across the Pacific after the Australian Open which ends less than a fortnight before.
Tennis Canada is hyping the tie to the hilt after the nation finally made it back into the Davis Cup elite after an absence of more than a decade. All available tickets were sold in a mater of hours.
There are talks being held about adding more temporary seating to fulfil demand, especially with Canadian No. 1 Milos Raonic and doubles legend Daniel Nestor expected to be onside.
The British Columbia capital of Vancouver was one of the few spots to have a venue which was not booked out, with the tie expected to break all Canadian tennis records as the excitement mounts.
