Rafael Nadal will shift his attention to next week’s Davis Cup final at home in Spain as he tries to shake off the nagging disappointment of crashing out of the World Tour Finals in the group stage. The world No. 2 was ambushed by Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 6-3 and now heads to Seville for the Davis date with Argentina.

Nadal goes in humbled after what for him has been a poor end to the ATP year. But the Spaniard remains positive in his outlook – of only for the fact that the final will be played on his native clay. “I’m going to be a week practising on clay. Even if I am not playing perfect, the surface help me,” said the winner of three clay titles in 2011.

“Sometimes it’s a little bit more about confidence, sometimes little bit more about the movement. I was a little bit slower than usual this week – because my mind wasn’t perfect, so the reaction was late.”

That should all change on his favourite surface where he will be joined on the squad by London semi-finalist David Ferrer. .

“On clay I have more time to think. The movements are a little bit easier for me. I’m going to have the right team there supporting me and I’ll be practising hard.

“I’ll try my best every day to try to win the Davis Cup for my country. I’m lucky, the team is no only myself. If I’m not in the right conditions, the captain can choose another player.”
