Tim Henman is the latest player to recall is days competing in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas, part of the ITF’s Davis Cup Idols video series which features former stars of the game talking about their experiences and memories of the competition.

The former world number four made his Davis Cup debut for Great Britain in 1994 and went on to compete in 21 ties, compiling an impressive 40-14 win-loss record. He retired from the competition in 2007 after leading Great Britain back into the World Group with a 4-1 victory over Croatia at Wimbledon.

“The first time I was part of the team it was a great experience. It was a steep learning curve, but I knew it was something that I desperately wanted to be a part of,” said Henman. “In our sport, you’re an individual involved in an individual game and you’re representing yourself for so much of the year, but then you come into Davis Cup and it’s a different kettle of fish, you’re representing your country and you’re representing your teammates. It’s a massive honor.”
