The All England Club To Get A New Royal Patron

The Duchess of Cambridge, better known to the world in general as Princess Kate, has been a confirmed tennis fan since long before meeting her husband Prince William. Now she is expected to take over from Queen Elizabeth II as patron of the All England Club at Wimbledon.

According to the Sunday Times, the Queen who turns 90 years of age in April, has decided to cut down on her list of responsibilities and decided to pass on some of her duties to the younger generation of the British royal family.

For the last 64 years the Queen has been patron of the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club, which hosts the world’s most prestigious tennis tournament. The Duchess of Norfolk accepted honorary membership of the All England Club in 2013.

Official confirmation of Princess Kate’s new role is expected to be officially announced during the first week of the Wimbledon Championships in June.

She will certainly be a more regular visitor to London SW19 than the Queen, who has only attended the Championships once since watching Virginia Wade win the Ladies Singles title during her Silver Jubilee Year of 1977.

The mother of Prince George and Princess Charlotte, is a regular in the Royal Box throughout the annual fortnight and is also an active tennis player and has just been granted planning permission to build a tennis court in the grounds of Anmer Hall in Norfolk.

The Duchess of Norfolk’s husband William is already president of the Football Association, and next the Queen is expected to hand over her patronage of the Rugby Football Union to his younger brother Prince Harry.
