Roger Federer knocked his way to the semifinals at the Swiss Indoors Basel today, where tomorrow he vies against his Swiss rival and Davis Cup Counterpart, world No. 19, Stanislas Wawrinka.

In the quarterfinals match today against No. 15, Andy Roddick, Federer unleashed the beast with a 6-3, 6-2 win. In an ATP Interview regarding their match Federer stated, “It was a bit of an off day for both of us and that’s the kinda way I actually like to move on in a tournament as well. You know, maybe not playing your best but moving on. But I definitely…uh…you know, profited from Andy’s poor serving today and I hope he can get his level back up for Paris and he continues.”

Continuing is exactly what Roger Federer is gracefully and powerfully doing in his hometown of Basel. His match against Stanislas Wawrinka is the second to last match of tomorrow. Tomorrow’s first singles semifinals match showcases Kei Nishikori, world No.32, and world No.1 Novak Djokovic.  Nishikori had a close match today against Mikhail Kukushkin scoring 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. We’ll see what damage the anomaly Nishikori can release on Djokovic as he strives for superiority.

Many of tomorrow’s semifinals contenders are excited for their upcoming matches, Stanislas Wawrinka included. In an ATP Interview today Wawrinka stated, “It’s very important for me, and especially at the end of the season to make again one more semifinal, it’s great!” Many Wawrinka fans are undoubtedly hooraying for the second best Swiss player of our time.

I too would be hooraying for Wawrinka but I can’t get rid of this itch. This exciting itchy itch that we’re gonna see old-time-long-time No.1 Federer duke it out, ball to racket, against new-time No.1 Djokovic. Thinking about the possible match gives me goose bumps.

Last Year Federer took back the Swiss Indoors Basel 500 title from Djokovic, and this year he’s hoping on keeping it. With a win, Basel would be his second ATP World Tour title of the season. In addition he could add it to his three consecutive Basel titles from 2006-2008. For Roger Federer Basel is the place to be, he’s already won an excess of 40 matches, a feat he has accomplished only at Grand Slam tournaments.

Basel’s luck runs deep for Federer and so does his love for the city. In an ATP Interview today, Federer stated “It’s one of the highlights of the year for me to be playing here in Basel. I grew up here and spent over 20 years in this city. I know my way round, it feels very special and I see so many familiar faces when I look around the stadium.” I wish the best for the flagging champion as he steps on center court tomorrow with hopes of bolstering his Basel success with a win over Wawrinka, and an eventual defeat over Djokovic.
