Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won the trophy at the Erste Bank Open 2011 in Vienna on Sunday after defeating Juan Martin del Potro 6-7 (5) 6-3 6-4.

Yesterday’s title was Tsonga’s second this year. He won Metz back in September and he was the runner up in Rotterdam and at Queens. The final was tough and there were no breaks of serve in the first set. A tiebreaker that went in del Potro’s favour decided the first set. The Argentine broke serve early in the second set but the Frenchman came straight back winning four games in a row and later claimed the second set. Tsonga’s serve helped him to win the third set, the match and the title. He fired nine aces in the deciding set. The top seed broke serve in the seventh game and from there he went on to win the match.

“I just tried to stay focused and strong in the head. I broke him back and came back in this final, and finally I did it. It was very special, because at the end there was the retirement of Thomas Muster and Goran Ivanisevic, one of my favourite players, was there. It was a great final and it’s going to stay in my memories,” the newly crowned Vienna Champ said. The runner up said, “I’m said because I lost but it was a good tournament for me. Jo played much better in the important moments and took his opportunities. He’s difficult to play because he’s very fast and has a good forehand.”

Tsonga’s chances of qualifying for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London are now looking good. After yesterday’s win he moved up to spot number No.7 overtaking American Mardy Fish in the year-to-date rankings. “I will try to take all the pressure off myself. I just want to play every tournament and enjoy it,” Tsonga said.

Awesome American tennis twins Bob and Mike Bryan captured their 7th title this in Vienna yesterday when they took out the number two seeds Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor 7-6 (10) 6-3 in the final. The world number ones have won both Australian Open and Wimbledon this year.

This match stayed on serve until the second set when the Bryans broke their opponents. The match lasted for one hour and 14 minutes. This was the Bryans first win since they won the Wimbledon title in July. “It feels good to get back in the winner’s circle. Hopefully it bodes well for the rest of the indoor season and hopefully we continue playing well and build toward London,” Mike Bryan said.

The twins have already qualified for the London doubles event and so has today’s runners up Mirnyi and Nestor.
