Spain’s David Ferrer joined Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Roger Federer as the fifth player to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.

World No. 5 Ferrer earned his spot in London after reaching the quarterfinals last week at the Shanghai Rolex Masters. “This is what I have been fighting for all year. I’ve had a great season with a lot of wins and I can’t wait to return to London. It is such a great event and it is so special to be among the Top 8 players once again. The atmosphere is incredible there,” Ferrer said.

The 29-year-old started the year with two title wins in Auckland and Acapulco. He was also the finalist at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Bastad and last week’s Masters tournament in Shanghai. His best Grand Slam result in 2011 was when he reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in January and lost to Andy Murray. This is Ferrer’s third time playing in this prestigious end-of-year event.

Other singles players looking to qualify are: Tomas Berdych, Mardy Fish, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Nicolas Almagro and Gilles Simon.

The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London is for the world’s Top 8 singles and doubles players. The round robin format is used and the two top players/teams will move into the semi-finals where there is a straight knockout.

The following teams have qualified for the doubles event:

Bob & Mike Bryan

Michael Llodra & Nenad Zimonjic

Max Mirnyi & Daniel Nestor

Jurgen Melzer & Philipp Petzschner (US Open Champions)

The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals will be played at The O2 Arena in London between 20 November to 27 November, 2011.
