US Open Quarterfinalist Capping Off Career-Best Year and Ranked No. 8 in World To Play

With All-Time Winningest Doubles Team at Spanish Hills On Sunday, Oct. 23

World No. 8 Mardy Fish, who is the top-ranking American tennis player, has committed to play at the Cool Planet Tennis Fest at Spanish Hills Country Club on Oct. 23, announced  Dave McKinney, Director of Tennis at Spanish Hills.

The exhibition and Pro Am benefits the Bryan Bros. Foundation, which supports youth tennis activities and underserved youth throughout Ventura County and Southern California.  The foundation has raised $240,000 for programs nationwide and was recently the recipient of the first grants awarded by ATP Tour Charities in the amount of $10,000.  The Bryan twins, Mike and Bob, are the current No. 1 doubles team in the world.

Fish has won 40 matches in 2011, capturing the title in Atlanta; reaching the finals in Montreal and Los Angeles; and with semifinal appearances in Memphis, Delray Beach, Miami and Cincinnati, where he beat Rafael Nadal.  Fish ascended to the No. 1 U.S. ranking in April.

The Bryan Brothers Tennis Fest starts at noon with a Pro Am limited to 10 amateur players who will partner with the Bryans and other former ATP Tour and WTA stars including former No. 1 doubles players Rick Leach and Ken Flach, and former world No. 1 and Hall of Famer Tracy Austin.

Following the Pro Am, the Bryans will play exhibition matches with celebrities and Fish and other tour professionals to be announced at a later date.

Capping the day’s activities, the Bryan Bros. Band will perform, presenting classic rock ‘n roll and original music written by the Bryan Brothers, with guest appearances by American Idol star Michael Johns, Counting Crows drummer Jim Bogios, and Grammy nominated singer/songwriter, James Slater.

The Bryans were recently recognized by the World Affairs Council of America with the Global Citizens of the Year Award. They will be presented with the award and honored at a special Gala Dinner presented by the World Affairs Councils of America on Friday, Oct. 21, at 6:30 p.m. at Spanish Hills.

The Global Citizen of the Year Award recognizes individuals who make an outstanding contribution in the area of citizen diplomacy. The organization cited Mike and Bob’s “excellent examples of the kind of selfless ambassadorship needed to promote and inspire global understandings.”

The Bryan Bros. Band will perform at the Gala and tickets are currently on sale at $125 per person, $225 per couple and $800 for a VIP Table of eight. Tickets can be purchased through the website at: bbtennisfest.com

Commenting from Beijing, where they are competing this week, Bob Bryan said, “We are so appreciative that our friends Mardy, Tracy and Ricky, and Ken are coming to Camarillo to donate their time to bring great tennis to our city and to help raise funds for the kids.  It is going to be a great day, and we say thanks to Dave and his staff for all their hard work and thanks to our friends and fans in the area who so enthusiastically come out to support this event each year.”

“There are still a few spots in the Pro Am,” added Mike Bryan. “We always enjoy playing with our supporters, and tickets are available for the exhibition. This is definitely a chance to see world class tennis at courtside.”

Cool Planet Energy Systems is the title sponsor of the event, and Merrill Lynch is the presenting sponsor.

The Bryan Brothers have been ended the year No. 1 in the world a record-setting six times.  They have won 73 titles, also a record for titles won by a team, while winning 11 Grand Slam Titles, which ties them for the record with the team of Mark Woodforde-Todd Woodbridge.
