Australia is taking on Switzerland at home in the Davis Cup World Group playoffs in Sydney this week.

Roger Federer arrived in Sydney on Wednesday morning and one might think it wouldn’t be enough time for a player to prepare. Hewitt said, “For a freak like Roger, it doesn’t matter. I haven’t seen a lot that Roger hasn’t been able to do, so he’s as close to Superman as it comes.”

Hewitt said his foot injury is getting better after having to miss the US Open. The former world number one signalled he will be ready to play singles and doubles if needed. It’s going to be a very difficult tie for Australia with Switzerland having Federer the world number three and Stanislas Wawrinka World No. 14 in their team. There has been talk about Wawrinka having a foot injury suffered at the US Open but the Swiss team are hoping Stan will be fit for the first match on Friday.

Australia’s number one player Bernard Tomic is happy to take part in the home tie this week, “It’s a big opportunity, I can’t wait for it to present itself,” the young Aussie star said.

Hewitt knows the challenge ahead and he said, “To be playing a team like Switzerland with two top 15 players in the world, just go get back in the world group is no easy ask. We know we’re going to be up against it this week, but we believe in each other and hopefully we can get the job done.”

Australia’s Davis Cup Coach Pat Rafter explained the reason behind playing on grass at the Royal Sydney Golf Club. It is the Swiss number two player Stanislas Wawrinka’s worst surface and they are hoping to win the rubber against him.

Roger Federer will probably win both his matches so it looks like it will be down to Wawrinka to try and hold his own in his singles matches.
