Murray Books Semi-Final Spot

World No. 4 Andy Murray is through to the semi-final at US Open after a four set win 7-5 6-4 3-6 7-6 (2) over American hometown favourite John Isner.

Andy Murray is not playing his best tennis right now and he has had to dig deep to win his matches in the windy conditions at Flushing Meadows. The 2008 finalist Murray only made 20 unforced errors today compared to his opponent’s 54. Isner has played 14 tiebreakers at this year’s US Open and today’s fourth set tiebreak loss took him out of the tournament.

Before this match Isner had won nine matches leading up to the US Open. The tall American won the Winston Salem Open the week before this Grand Slam. Including today’s win the British number one has won ten matches in a row thanks to his title win in Cincinnati.

Isner and Murray have only faced each other once before and it was at the 2010 Australian Open. Murray won the fourth round encounter in straight sets. The Brit knows how hard today’s match was going to be, “It’s so frustrating playing against him. You feel like you’re playing such good tennis, but it’s so tough to break him. He started serving well in the third set and put a lot of pressure on me. I’m relieved to win that in a fourth set tiebreaker.”

The 2011 Grand Slam results of Andy Murray are fantastic. He reached the final at the Australian Open where he lost to Djokovic. Rafael Nadal stopped him in the semi-final both at the French Open and at Wimbledon.

World No. 2 Rafael Nadal will be his opponent in the semi-final. Nadal spoiled Roddick’s hopes of reaching this year’s US open semi-final by crushing him 6-2 6-1 6-3.

Murray really deserves to win a Grand Slam and has been sniffing around for long enough. He might never win Wimbledon because of all the pressure but he might just win his first Grand Slam on the weekend. Good luck Andy!
