Roger Federer Overcomes Sela at US Open

World No. 3 Roger Federer finished off his second round match in one hour and 17 minutes against Israeli Dudi Sela. The Swiss star won in straight sets 6-3 6-2 6-2.

Federer didn’t think he played too well today against Sela. “I did struggle a bit with the rhythm just because it was quite breezy. On the one end, on the right hand side of the umpire’s chair you had sort of an uphill match, with strong winds against you. From the other side you barely touched the ball and it would fly on you. That’s why you would make sometimes big errors of 10 feet.”

Federer broke serve at 3-2 in the first set and then took the set 6-3. Federer’s return game was not at his best today but on serve he was dominating the Israeli in the next two sets. The Swiss player hit 6 aces and 31 winners today.

“I don’t go into a match telling myself more than 10 errors is a terrible match because I expect myself to hit errors because I know I will hit a lot of winners too. It all matters when they happen,” Roger said.

Today’s win was Federer’s 224^th Grand Slam win. Federer is now equal to Andre Agassi for winning matches at Grand Slams. Jimmy Connors is still leading with 233 matches won.

The five-times US Open Champion will come across the No. 27 seed Croat Marin Cilic in the third round. Cilic destroyed Australian youngster Bernard Tomic today 6-1 6-0 6-2. Before the Cilic vs. Tomic match was finished Roger said, “Fifty-fifty who’s gonna win at this poin. I think I’d like to play Bernard for the first time because I’ve never played him before. I like to play the new generation coming up.”
