Former World No. 4 Juan Martin Del Potro has confirmed he will compete at Stockholm Open in October.
The Argentinian has been sidelined by injuries. Del Potro only played three tournaments in 2010. He reached the fourth round at the Australian Open early in the year and then went in for surgery on his wrist and that kept the Argentinian out of the game for eight months.
Del Potro is now coming back stronger than ever. He is currently ranked No. 18 on the ATP Tour ranking. He has collected two titles in 2011 in Estoril and Delray Beach. The 22-year-old reached three semi-finals at the start of the year in San Jose (l.Verdasco), Memphis (l.Roddick) and at the ATP World Tour masters 1000 in Indian Wells (l.Nadal).
In 2009 Del Potro was the US Open Champion. He defeated Super Swiss Roger Federer in the final. Stockholm Open tournament director, former tennis professional Thomas Johnasson is very pleased to have Del Potro in Stockholm, “He is making a great comeback on the tour. I would not be surprised if he is ranked inside Top 10 when our tournament starts in October. He is the player who can hurt Djokovic, Nadal and Federer on any given day.”
Del Potro is currently in New York for the US Open. His first round opponent is Filippo Volandri of Italy.
