Final Facts

– World No.1 Wozniacki wins her fourth straight singles title at New Haven, her sixth title of 2011 and the 18th of her career. The 21-year-old Dane is now 18-10 in WTA finals (6-2 this year). She also won six titles in 2010.

– Wozniacki, now 17-0 lifetime at New Haven, is the first player in nine years to win the same WTA title four years running. The last player to achieve the feat was Venus Williams, at this same event from 1999 to 2002.

– With the win, Wozniacki becomes the 21st player in WTA history to cross $10 million in career prize money. Serena Williams is the leader with $33,372,829.

– Wozniacki leads the WTA for main draw match wins this year – 53. Regardless of her results at the US Open, Wozniacki is projected to keep the top ranking through the week of September 12.

– Qualifier Cetkovska was contesting her first WTA singles final. Playing on a career high ranking of No.40 this week, the 26-year-old Czech is projected to crack the Top 35 in the new rankings.

– To reach the final, Cetkovska upset No.5 seed Agnieszka Radwanska, No.4 seed Marion Bartoli and No.2 seed Li Na in the semifinals, saving a match point.

– Chuang Chia-Jung and Olga Govortsova win their first title together. Chuang now has 17 WTA doubles titles, Govortsova seven.

Final Quotes

Caroline Wozniacki, 2011 New Haven Open at Yale singles champion:

“It’s a great tournament for me. I love being back here, I said it before. I still can’t really believe I’ve been here four times already. I definitely feel like I’m hitting the ball well. I’m on a good roll. I’m looking forward to the Open.”

Petra Cetkovska, 2011 New Haven Open at Yale singles runner-up:

“I’m really happy to be here, to have gone so far in the tournament. Obviously I wanted to win, to do even better – but today it was just a little bit too much. Caroline is playing great – but I had a great week.”

Olga Govortsova, 2011 New Haven Open at Yale doubles champion:

“I had my birthday here this week too so I guess it’s a good present for me. It seems CJ and I only play well at the end of the season, maybe we should just start at this time every year!”
