Former Australian Open Champions Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram of Israel caused an upset today at the Winston Salem Open doubles event when they took out Mahesh Bhupathi of India and Mark Knowles of the Bahamas 6-4 6-3 in the first round. The Israeli duo will face the Brazilian team of Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares in the second round.
Only one seeded team have made it past the first round this week. The number four seeds Christopher Kas of Germany and Alexander Peya of Austria are through to the semi-finals after a win over American wildcards Michael Russell and Donald Young 6-2 6-1.
The German/Austrian team will face Santiago Gonzales of Mexico and Jamie Murray of Great Britain in the semi-final. Gonzalez and Murray downed Lukas Dlouhy and Horia Tecau winning 10-8 in the third set match tiebreak. Dlouhy and Tecau surprised the number one seeds Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi in the first round.
In the bottom half of the draw wildcards Treat Conrad Huey and Cory Parr are currently playing Colin Fleming and Scott Lipsky. Fleming and Lipsky took the first set 7-6 (5) and are leading the second 3-0.
