US OPEN QUALIFYING BEGINS
You won’t find many big names here. No Roger Federer. No Rafael Nadal. No Serena Williams. No Maria Sharapova. Matter of fact, the majority are probably names that you have never seen or heard of just before now. But they all have the same goal…to get one of those coveted spots in the main draw. Some players, like Arnaud Clement, have been there many times before and finds himself fighting just to get a “Q” next to his name in the draw. There’s a large portion of the qualifiers on the men’s and women’s side who are dreaming of that debut US Open. Some will have their dreams fulfilled while others will get their heart broke and can only look toward making their dream come true another year.
Even with these unfamiliar names, it’s intriguing to wonder who of these unknowns might have a breakthrough. Who might be experiencing their last few moments in anonymity? Are they ready? Rare does a qualifier make it deep into a Slam but the excitement of the possibility.
The US Open Qualifying is a 128 draw with 32 seeds and at the completion of the Qualifying there are 16 Qualifiers to place. The Qualifying begins tomorrow at 11am (EDT) and concludes on Friday.
Wishing Good Luck to all the players in the Qualifying over these next few days.
