Super Serb and World No. 1 Novak Djokovic took care of American youngster Ryan Harrison. Djokovic won the match 6-2 6-3 in one hour and 17 minutes at the Western & Southern Open today.
Djokovic won 80 percent of his service points today. It’s the first time the American wildcard Harrison played the World No. 1. Novak is looking to win his sixth Master Series title this week in Cincinnati. He won last week in Montréal defeating Mardy Fish in the final.
Radek Stepanek is next for Djokovic. Stepanek marched into the third round after a win over Andrey Golubev of Kazakhstan 6-3 7-6 (2). The Czech qualifier won the title in Washington a couple of weeks ago.
Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber overcame Spain’s Feliciano Lopez 6-1 6-4. The German will now face Gael Monfils in the third round. The Frenchman sent Ivan Dodig out of the draw earlier today.
Number nine seed Spaniard Nicolas Almagro had a tight match with big serving Croat Ivo Karlovic. Almagro faced 21 aces from Karlovic but still managed to win the match 6-3 5-7 7-6 (2).
Almagro can look forward to his next match against Tomas Berdych, who is seeded number eight this week.
Alternates in the doubles Lukas Dlouhy and Alexandr Dolgopolov downed the good looking Spanish team of Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco 7-6 (4) 6-3. Top seeds The Bryan Brothers are waiting in the next round for Dlouhy and Dolgopolov.
Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek beat another Spanish team Nicolas Almagro and Pablo Andujar 6-2 6-3. Berdych and Stepanek will play the number sixth seeds Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecauin the second round.
