America’s Number One player Mardy Fish earned himself a spot in the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup in Montréal earlier today.

The World No. 8 overcame Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka in three sets 6-3 6-7 (8) 6-0. Fish lost serve five times in the first two sets and still managed to win the battle. “It was tough to get a hold. The conditions were playing slow and we couldn’t win that last point on serve,” Fish said.

Mardy Fish had two match points in the second set but couldn’t convert them and was forced in to a third set, in which he demolished the Swiss number No. 2 ranked player. The American has had a successful summer on the American hard courts, winning the Atlanta tournament and a finalist at the Farmers Classic in LA.

Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic will play Mardy Fish in the semi-finals of the bottom half of the draw. Tipsarevic took out Czech Tomas Berdych 6-4 6-4. This is the first time the Serbian has reached a semi-final of an ATP World Tour Masters 1000.

“I fell the crucial point in the match was the beginning of the first set when I managed to save three straight break points. I played Tomas a couple of times before What I know and what I noticed about his game is when he’s leading, he’s playing out of his mind. But sometimes when he’s down or when it’s a tight match, makes some mistakes which are unusual,” Tipsarevic said.

Fish and Tipsarevic have faced each other four times. Mardy has won the last three matches. The most recent match was in Beijing when Fish won in two sets.

The man who has beaten Roger Federer twice this year Jo Wilfried Tsonga advanced into the semi-final after a comfortable win over Spain’s Nicolas Almagro 6-4 6-4. Tsonga has now got a 5-0 match record against Almagro.

Tsonga is looking to win his first title this year. He was the runner up this year at the Queens Tournament in London and in Rotterdam. The smiling Frenchman will face the winner of World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and his fellow countryman Gael Monfils.
