PRESTIGIOUS AELTC VISITS MONTREAL’S ROGERS CUP

Montreal, Aug. 9, 2011 – For the first time in over 20 years, members of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, home

of Wimbledon, will be touring Canada and will visit Montreal’s Rogers Cup presented by National Bank.

« It’s very flattering that they have chosen our event, » said Tournament Director Eugène Lapierre. « It says a lot

about the fact that we have come a long way and are making our mark on the international tennis community. And

with the successful combined event we’re about to stage, they couldn’t have chosen a better time. »

Among the group are AELTC Chairman Phil Brook, former AELTC Chairman Tim Phillips, former LTA President

Derek Howorth and the one who made it happen, former Tennis Canada Executive Vice President and Canadian

Open Chairman John Beddington. Also in the group are two international tennis legends; Jan Kodes, 1970 and

1971 French Open, 1973 Wimbledon champion and 1971 and 1973 U.S. Open finalist as well as Mark Cox, former

top ten player who spent part of his career in Canada. They lead a group of tennis lovers on a trip to many of

Canada’s best tennis clubs including Quebec City’s Club de Tennis Montcalm and Montreal’s Mount Royal Tennis

Club, Toronto Lawn Tennis Club, TorontoCricket, Skating and Curling Club and Vancouver Lawn Tennis and

Badminton Club. The group of 29 arrives in the country on August 10.

« I’m very excited to bring our group to tour tennis clubs in Canada and I’m particularly looking forward to showing

them the event they’ve been hearing me brag about for years now, the Rogers Cup, » said John Beddington. « All

members of our group have been looking forward to this trip for a long time and I am convinced they will be

impressed by the quality of our facilities.»

Montréal, le 9 août 2011 – Pour la première fois depuis plus de 20 ans, les membres du All England Lawn Tennis

Club, foyer de Wimbledon, effectueront une tournée au Canada et visiteront la Coupe Rogers présentée par

Banque Nationale de Montréal.

« Nous sommes ravis qu’ils aient choisi notre tournoi », commentait Eugène Lapierre, directeur du tournoi

montréalais. « Cela témoigne du long chemin que nous avons parcouru et de la notoriété que nous avons acquise

au sein de la collectivité internationale du tennis. Le tournoi étant désormais une épreuve virtuellement mixte, ils

n’auraient pu choisir un meilleur moment pour nous rendre visite. »

Parmi le groupe de l’AELTC se trouve le président Phil Brook, l’ex-président Tim Phillips, l’ex-président de la LTA

Derek Howorth et celui qui a rendu possible cette visite, l’expremier vice-président de Tennis Canada et ex-

président des Internationaux du Canada, John Beddington. Le groupe est également composé de deux légendes

internationales du tennis, soit Jan Kodes, champion de Roland-Garros en 1970 et 1971, de Wimbledon en 1973 et

finaliste des Internationaux des États-Unis de 1971 et 1973, ainsi que Mark Cox, ex-joueur du Top 10 qui a évolué

au Canada durant une partie de sa carrière. Ils guident un groupe de passionnés de tennis dans une visite des

meilleurs clubs de tennis du Canada, notamment le Club de tennis Montcalm, de Québec, et le club de tennis Mont-

Royal, de Montréal, le Toronto Lawn Tennis Club, le Toronto Cricket, le Skating and Curling Club ainsi que le

Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club. Ces 29 visiteurs arriveront au pays le 10 août.

« Je suis très heureux de faire faire la tournée des clubs canadiens à notre groupe et j’ai vraiment hâte qu’il

découvre le tournoi que je vante depuis tant d’années, la Coupe Rogers », confiait John Beddington. « Tous les

membres du groupe attendent ce moment avec impatience et je suis certain qu’ils seront impressionnés par la

qualité de nos installations. »
