The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) has today announced that Bob Brett will be resigning his position as Director of Player Development with effect from the end of the month.
Bob’s association with the LTA began in early 2014 when he was commissioned to undertake an extensive evaluation of British Tennis. As a result of that exercise, he recommended a number of critical changes across British Tennis aimed at developing the infrastructure and support that would create a platform for British boys and girls to compete with the best tennis players across the world. It was with this mandate that Bob agreed to perform the role of Director of Player Development.
Brett, who believes this is now an appropriate time for him to move on from the role, said: “I have enjoyed my time at the LTA working with some very talented players, coaches, sports science and sports medicine experts. I wish them all the very best in the future. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the LTA Board for the opportunity that they have given to me during this period.”
LTA Chief Executive Michael Downey said, “I would like to recognise the contribution Bob brought to British Tennis. Many of his recommendations aimed at raising the bar for excellence, have now been implemented. We have seen the power of his five-day camps for the nation’s best juniors and his mentoring of some of Britain’s best young coaching talent where they benefited from his “in the trenches” understanding of what it takes to succeed on the global stage. Despite a relatively short tenure at the LTA, Bob has made a difference in improving our nation’s chances for greater success.”
The LTA has commenced a search for a new Performance Director which is progressing well. In the interim period, Michael Downey will assume direct responsibility for the Senior High Performance Leadership Team, including Leon Smith (Head of Men’s Tennis and Davis Cup Captain) and Jeremy Bates (Head of Women’s Tennis).
