Victorious Peter Luczak qualified and won a round at the Crédit Agricole Suisse Open in Gstaad last week. “Looch went through qualifying without losing a set. The world No. 248 won his first round in main draw against Swiss wildcard Alexander Sadecky in three tough sets 6-2 3-6 7-6 (4). Waiting in the second round was second seed and world number seventeen Stanislas Wawrinka. Unfortunately, the Swiss Davis Cup player was too strong for Luczak who lost in two sets 6-3 7-5.

There were four Aussie at the Farmers Classic qualifying event in Los Angeles last week. Injury prone Chris Guccione lost in the first round to American Denis Kudla 7-6 (4) 6-4. “The Gooch” is currently ranked 215 in singles and 141 in doubles on the ATP Tour rankings. His career high singles ranking reached 67 back in 2008.

Marinko Matosevic was seeded number three in the qualifying at the Farmers Classic. Matosevic breezed through the first round beating Marcin Kosakovski of United States of America 6-0 6-1. France’s Clement Reix was too strong for Matosevic in the second round. The Frenchman won in two straight sets 6-3 7-6 (6).

It was a similar story for the number eight seed Carsten Ball. He won his first round against Spaniard Luis Antonio Perez-Perez 6-3 6-2. Ball fell in the second round to Laurynas Grigelis of Lithuania 6-4 6-4.

The only Aussie to qualify for the main draw was Greg Jones. The number seven seed took out former world number nine Nicolas Massu of Chile 6-4 6-0 to earn a spot in the main draw event.

Greg Jones of New South Wales drew American Alex Bogomolov Jr in the first round. Jones lost in three sets 4-6 6-1 6-1.

Aussie doubles player Stephen Huss teamed up with Igor Kunitsyn of Russia this week at the Farmers Classic in La. The Aussie/Russian team didn’t have much success and lost in the first round to Thomasz Bellucci and Alejardro Falla 6-0 6-3.

World number ten Samantha Stosur was in Stanford for the Bank of the West Classic last week. Stosur has suffered from poor form lately. This week se lost to Germany’s Sabine Lisicki in the second round 6-3 7-5.

Stosur and Lisicki teamed up in the doubles but lost in the second round to Julia Goerges and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 2-6 6-4 10-5.

Anastasia Rodionova was crushed by Serena William 6-0 6-0 in the first round in Stanford.
