World No. 24 and number five seed Feliciano Lopez was pushed yesterday by Swiss wildcard Michael Lammer. Lopez advanced in to the second round at the Crédit Agricole Suisse Open by winning 6-4 6-7 (4) 6-3.
Lopez was the finalist in Gstaad in 2006 when he lost to Frenchman Richard Gasquet. It took The Spaniard two hours and 24 minutes to get past World No. 356 Michael Lammer.
Waiting for Feliciano in the next round it fellow country man Daniel Gimeno-Traver who took out Steve Darcis of Belgium 6-4 5-7 7-5.
Finish player Jarkko Nieminen needed two sets to overcome Romania’s Victor Hanescu 7-5 6-2. The match lasted for 73 minutes. Nieminen is currently ranked number 53 on the ATP Tour Ranking. The Finn will play top seed Spaniard Nicolas Almagro in the second round. Almagro had a bye in the first round due to his seeding.
Number six seed and World No. 37 Guillermo Garcia-Lopez suffered a surprise loss to Colombian Santiago Giraldo. The three set match finished 5-7 6-2 6-1. Giraldo’s next opponent is Andreas Haider-Maurer of Austria.
Victor Hanescu and Rogier Wassen won a tough three sets match against the Spanish team Pablo Andujar and Daniel Gimeno-Traver 5-7 6-4 10-7. Wassen and Hanescu will play Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Marc Lopez in the second round in the Gstaad doubles event.
