Tennis legends Lindsay Davenport, Marion Bartoli, Greg Rusedski and Jeremy Bates will play an exhibition match before the Aegon International Eastbourne final on Saturday June 27th.
Aegon International Eastbourne champion in 2001, Davenport has been down at Devonshire Park this week in her role as coach to Madison Keys. The three-time Grand Slam Champion said she was delighted to be back. “The courts are fabulous and the atmosphere second to none,” said Davenport.
“I really enjoyed my playing days there and it’s always nice to be invited back where the fans are very knowledgeable on their tennis. It will be fun catching up with Marion, Greg and Jeremy too.”
The Aegon International Eastbourne champion in 2011, Bartoli was a 10-time visitor to Eastbourne during her playing days. She said she was looking forward to returning to Devonshire Park for the first time since 2013: “I am really excited to be playing in the Legends Match at the Aegon Eastbourne International,” said the 2013 Wimbledon champion. “Devonshire Park has always been a special place to play and winning the title is a great memory.”
A Wimbledon quarterfinalist and US Open finalist in 1997, Rusedski is a regular at the Aegon International Legends event. “Lindsay and I teamed up at Devonshire Park in 2013 and it was great fun,” he said. “The line-up for this year’s match is fantastic and I’m sure we will put on a good show for the crowd. I think it’s an event for the fans to enjoy ahead of the final of this prestigious tournament.”
Former British No.1 and two-time Grand Slam mixed doubles champion Jeremy Bates rounds off this year’s legends quartet. “It’s going to be a fantastic event on Saturday,” said Bates. “The opportunity to play on such an historic court – the scene of so many of my favourite Davis Cup memories – together with these great players is going to be special. I’m sure it will be a great spectacle for fans.”
A traditional feature of the pre-Wimbledon grass court event, the legends doubles will take place on Centre Court at 12pm on Saturday, ahead of the women’s singles final at 1.30pm.
Aegon International Eastbourne Tournament Director, Gavin Fletcher said: ““We are delighted to announce such a strong line up for what has become one of the highlights of the Eastbourne week. Having such an array of talent on show is a real compliment to the championships and we are really looking forward to some spectacular tennis.”
