Juan Carlos Ferrero is one lucky man this week winning the tournament title and a car. Ferrero beat fellow Spaniard Pablo Andujar in two straight sets 6-4 6-0 at the MercedesCup in Stuttgart.

JC is a former world number one but his current ranking is 85. Ferrero has struggled with a knee injury but he was happy with the way the knee held up during the tournament.

MercedesCup in Stuttgart was his 34th career final. The all- Spanish final was finished in 80 minutes. Due to rain the final was delayed for over two hours.

“It’s been great for me this week. This first tournament playing here after a very long year at home practicing zero, so I came here with no goals. Now I am the winner of the tournament. I’m very happy, I take a lot of confidence in myself again,” Ferrero said.

The former world number one won €68 850 and a white Mercedes-Benz SLK 350. He had already decided to give the car away to his father Eduardo, who was in the stands in Stuttgart throughout the week supporting his son. “I knew here we win the car, so it’s one thing I wanted to do. I think my father is very happy about it,” Ferrero said.

Pablo Andujar was happy making the final this week. “I’m playing solid and I played a really good week for me. It’s tough for me but still I’m happy – happy for him as well because I know he had a tough time coming back from injury.”

The No. 2 seeds Jurgen Melzer of Austria and Philipp Petzschner of Germany took out the all- Spanish team and No. 3 seeds Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez in two straight sets 6-3 6-4 in the doubles final in Stuttgart.

This win was Melzer and Petzschner’s second title of the year. Earlier this year the team won the ATP Tournament in Rotterdam defeating Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic in the final.

Petzschner said, “It’s a great feeling, especially winning in front of the home crowd. I think we played a really good match today. They didn’t make it easy for us, but we came through and it was a nice win. It’s a great experience winning a title on clay and we have  a lot of confidence for Hamburg.”

The Spanish team has never won a title together. Granollers and Lopez were finalists in Zagreb where they lost to Dick Norman and Horia Tecau.
