Italian Filippo Volandri is through to the second around after Spain’s Tommy Robredo had to retire. Robredo pulled out with a thigh injury after one hour and 49 minutes, well in to the second set.  Volandri will play the winner of Mikhail Kukushkin and Andreas Haider-Maurer in the next round.

Three Swedish players will be in action today. Michael Ryderstedt is playing Maximo Gonzalez of Argentina first on Centre Court followed by wildcard Christian Lindell vs. Pere Riba of Spain. Third Swede for the day is Andreas Vinicguerra, who received a wildcard after Erwin Eleskovic had to pull out. Vinciguerra will take on France’s Jonathan Dasnieres De Veigy.

Hometown favourite and No.1 seeds Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau is last match on Centre Court this evening. The opposition is Julian Knowle of Austria and Igor Zelenay of Slovakia.

Australian tennis legend and Wimbledon Champion Pat Cash has been spotted in Båstad. “Cashy” is recording a segment about Swedish tennis for his show “Open Court” showing on CNN.

“It’s an amazing place. I’ve heard a lot about this tournament but I never had the chance to play it. Now I understand why the players love it here. It’s very relaxed in a Spanish kind of way. You can have a lot of fun once you are out of the tournament,” Pat said.
