Australia’s Bernard Tomic had to fight hard to see off Russian Igor Andreev yesterday at Wimbledon.

Tomic is the youngest player in the Wimbledon field. The second round score against Andreev was 4-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-1.

The young Aussie has got a tough third round opponent in Swede Robin Soderling. Tomic said, “I will talk to Lleyton Hewitt and a few more people, I am looking forward to playing him, he has been in the top ten for a while. I will go out there and have some fun.”

Bernard will take over as Australia’s No.1 player after Lleyton Hewitt’s bad run of injuries. He wasn’t very keen on talking about his new position as the Aussie No.1 ranked player. “Well, it’s a good feeling. I haven’t really focused on that too much. I know ranking will come if I win, especially if I win another game. I have another tough opponent. I’m just going to focus on this and see where my ranking is after the tournament.”

Bernard Tomic had to earn his spot in the 128-man field by playing in the qualifying event at Roehampton.

Robin Soderling took out Lleyton Hewitt in five sets in the previous round. Soderling should be feeling a little worried having to face the young talented Australian in the third round.
