Toronto, June 22, 2011 – It was a disappointing day for Canadians at Wimbledon as all three remaining singles
players fell in their second-round matches.
Canada’s top-ranked male singles player Milos Raonic (Thornhill, Ontario) was off to a blistering start in his
second-round match against Gilles Muller of Luxembourg before being forced to retire due to injury. Raonic was
serving up a break at 2-1, when he slipped on the grass and landed awkwardly on the ground.
A trainer visited Raonic on court and taped up his right thigh before the Canadian attempted to return to the
match. He won his service game, but returning Muller proved too difficult and Raonic retired at 3-2 in the first set.
He is being examined in London and an update on his status is pending.
Raonic had entered the week ranked No. 25 in the world, tying his career high and the highest ever for a
Canadian male.
MARINO AND DUBOIS OUSTED
Rebecca Marino (Vancouver) and Stephanie Dubois (Laval, Quebec) were also eliminated at the All-England
Club on Wednesday. Marino lost to Italian Roberta Vinci 7-6(3) 6-2 in a tough match. The 20-year-old served for
the first set at 5-3, but Vinci showed her veteran prowess and came back to claim victory.
Dubois displayed some excellent tennis against No. 11 seed Andrea Petkovic, giving the German all she could
handle before falling 6-3 4-6 6-3. It was a good showing for the 24-year-old who gained entry into the main draw
as a lucky loser following the withdrawal of Kim Clijsters.
DOUBLES ON TAP FOR THURSDAY
Gentlemen’s doubles gets underway at the All-England Club on Thursday with Canadians Daniel Nestor (Toronto)
and Adil Shamasdin (Toronto) set to play their first round matches. Seeded second, Nestor and partner Max
Mirnyi will taken on Leos Friedl and David Martin while Shamasdin and Australian partner Chris Guccione face
No. 10 seeds Mark Knowles and Lukasz Kubot .

Toronto, le 22 juin 2011 – Journée décevante pour les Canadiens à Wimbledon alors que tombaient au
deuxième tour les trois joueurs de simple encore en lice.
Milos Raonic (Thornhill, Ontario), meilleur joueur de simple du Canada, avait pourtant bien commencé son match
contre Gilles Muller, du Luxembourg, avant de devoir abandonner en raison d’une blessure. En effet, Raonic
servait à 2-1 lorsqu’il a glissé et s’est retrouvé dans une position peu confortable.
Raonic a reçu les soins d’un physiothérapeute et s’est fait faire un bandage à la hanche droite avant de tenter de
reprendre le match. Il a remporté son service, mais n’a pas été en mesure de poursuivre et a donc concédé le
match à 3-2 de la manche initiale. Il sera vu par des médecins londoniens et nous devrions avoir de ses nouvelles
sous peu.
Au début de la semaine, Raonic occupait le 25e rang mondial, égalant ainsi sa meilleure marque personnelle et le
record pour un joueur canadien.
MARINO ET DUBOIS ÉLIMINÉES
Mercredi, Rebecca Marino (Vancouver) et Stéphanie Dubois (Laval, Québec) ont aussi subi une défaite au All-
England Club. Marino a plié l’échine 7-6(3) et 6-2 face à l’Italienne Roberta Vinci. La joueuse de 20 ans a servi
pour la première manche à 5-3, mais son adversaire, plus aguerrie, a su renverser la vapeur pour s’envoler avec
la victoire.
Dubois a fait bonne figure contre l’Allemande Andrea Petkovic, 11e tête de série, lui donnant beaucoup de fils à
retordre avant de s’incliner 6-3, 4-6 et 6-3. Somme toute, ce fut une bonne prestation pour la Québécoise de 24
ans qui avait été repêchée des qualifications à la suite du retrait de Kim Clijsters.
LE DOUBLE AU PROGRAMME DE JEUDI
Le double masculin commencera jeudi au All-England Club et les Canadiens Daniel Nestor (Toronto) et Adil
Shamasdin (Toronto) disputeront leur match de premier tour. Nestor et Max Mirnyi, qui sont les deuxièmes têtes
d’affiche, se mesureront à Leos Friedl et à David Martin, tandis que Shamasdin et l’Australien Chris Guccione
affrontement les dixièmes têtes de série Mark Knowles et Lukasz Kubot.
