British No. 2 James Ward is getting ready for his match against Frenchman Michael Llodra by listening to Donna Summer’s classic hit Hot Stuff. Ward is up 3^rd match after 12.00 pm on court 2.

Venus Williams outplayed Akgul Amanmuradova from Uzbekistan yesterday. Williams just got back from a six-month injury but that didn’t stop her from winning in two straight sets 6-3, 6-1. Venus played her first tournament last week in Eastbourne after her injury break. Venus sported a rather unusual outfit. A white playsuit with an open back and very large short sleeves. The outfit received a lot of mixed reviews.

Rafael Nadal was happy to see his mother and father watching his match against American Michael Russell. Rafa got through the match in straight sets after a bit of a shaky start. The Spanish super star said, “It was just too beautiful to see my mum and dad in the Royal Box.”

Andy Murray had a few problems in the beginning with Spain’s Gimeno-Traver. He quickly came back and finished the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-0, 6-0.

Milos Raonic of Canada had a win over Frenchman Marc Gicquel, 6-3, 7-6, 6-3. Raonic said after the match, “It was good. I think I played well. There’s a lot of work that’s put into it, and I’m happy it’s paying off and I’m getting on the right track.”

Gael Monfils overcame Matthias Bachinger of Germany, 6-4, 7-6, 6-3. Tomas Berdych, last year’s finalist beat Filippo Volandri 6-2, 6-2, 6-1.

British No. 5 Katie O’Brien was not happy after losing to 40-year-old Kimiko Date-Krumm from Japan. O’Brien currently ranked number 215 will be considering her future in tennis. The match only took 64 minutes and the score was 6-0. 7-5. Katie O’Brien said after the match, “I’m not enjoying life on tour. It’s no fun. I will have to makd some big improvements if I’m going to continue. I’m academically quite able as well so there are other things I could do.”

The ever smiling Italian Francesca Schiavone had a tough match against Australia’s Jelena Dokic. The Italian took the first set 6-4 but Dokic took the second 6-1. Dokic is always a dangerous opponent in the first round. The former world number four has had a good lead up to Wimbledon. Former French Open Champ Schiavone took the deciding set 6-3.
