Wimbledon Village will be the place to be in the next couple of weeks. To be seen, have a drink, try to spot the players and if you are lucky enough you might know someone, who knows someone else’s uncle, who is in charge of the ball boys on court 13 and they can give you a ticket for the first Tuesday.

For the avid tennis fans, Wimbledon is the highlight of the year. For the not so keen tennis fans, and the people who believe there is only one tournament on every year, Wimbledon is a big event. Thousands will flock down to the local asphalt courts to have a tonk. The pro shops will sell lots of Roger Federer Wilson rackets or Rafa’s yellow weapon Babolat. They will play once and then put the racket away for another year, wash their white shorts, and hope the balls will last for next years hit. I always wanted to know if there was only one tournament every year, what do the players do in between Wimbledons?

Luckily Andy Murray has come on the scene since Tim Henman decided to hang up his bats. For years I was hoping a British passport holder would win the massive gold trophy. This year Andy Murray will win the prestigious title with Pippa Middleton watching. I am going down to the local Ladbroke’s to have a bet on Andy.

As usual the British players will have a go at something. Youngster Oliver Golding criticised the All England Club for handing out too many wild cards to foreigners. Golding used Twitter to deliver his thoughts on the wildcard situation. Maybe Alex Bogdanovic should be given one more wildcard to prove he can win a round or two.

Martina Navratilova has made some harsh comments about Western kids. “It’s easier to be determined when you have nothing. In the USA and here (UK), it’s a rich kids’ sport. The Eastern European players have more respect for their elders and for coaches, it’s a cultural thing.” I have met some determined kids from middle class families and they play pretty good tennis too.

We at 10sballs.com are very much looking forward to Wimbledon 2011. Having visited Queens and Wimbledon, Queens is actually my preferred choice. If you don’t get a ticket to this years Wimbledon, and you don’t want to queue outside, Wimbledon Village is worth a visit.
