Indian Wells Tennis Garden Wheelchair Championships To Be Held February 6-8, 2015
The Indian Wells Tennis Garden (IWTG), home to the BNP Paribas Open, has launched a new wheelchair tennis clinic program, it was announced today by Tom Fey, Director of Tennis.
The weekly wheelchair tennis clinics are open to the public, free and designed for both beginner and intermediate/advanced players. The clinics are being held each Monday with the Intermediate/Advanced clinic taking place from 3:30 – 4:45 p.m. and the Beginner clinic being held from 4:45 – 6:00 p.m. Courts will also be available for free play until 6:00 p.m.
D’Wayne Begay, a USTA certified wheelchair technician and IWTG teaching pro, will oversee the clinics. The Tennis Garden is collaborating with Incight a local organization dedicated to empowering people with disabilities to realize and utilize their potential, to provide sports chairs for use at the clinics.
In addition to the weekly clinics, the Indian Wells Tennis Garden will host the first ever IWTG Wheelchair Championships to be held February 6-8. Professional wheelchair tennis athletes from all over the world will compete for ITF ranking points in order to qualify for the world’s most prestigious competitions, including the Para Pan Am games, World Team Cup and Paralympic games. The event will feature both singles and doubles in Men’s, Women’s, and Quad Open divisions (sanctioned by the ITF and USTA), as well as Men’s A, B, C divisions (sanctioned by the USTA). The event is open to the general public and free to attend.

About the Indian Wells Tennis Garden
The Indian Wells Tennis Garden opened in March 2000 and is a world-class tennis venue that is home to the renowned BNP Paribas Open. It also provides a full-service tennis club with 29 championship courts, 23 of which are lighted, a fitness center, locker rooms and member’s lounge. The site features the second largest tennis stadium in the world, which seats 16,100 fans, and includes 44 stadium suites, broadcast and media facilities and an 8,000 sq. ft. food commissary. The Tennis Garden opened a permanent Stadium 2 in 2014, with 8,000 seats and three gourmet restaurants including Nobu, the world-famous Japanese restaurant. The site also features two 19,000 square foot shade structures, four acres of outdoor exposition space and parking for over 10,000 cars. Weekly tours of Stadium 1 are given every Saturday from the Tennis Pro Shop.
