This is the first of many. Thousands quite possibly. Today we are wishing Mona Freeman a belated Happy Birthday. Mona was the first Miss Subway in New York City. So it’s perfect she is our first “Miss Hollywood”. Mona was one of those lucky actors at Paramount Studios that went to the tennis at the Los Angeles Tennis Club.(It makes top 20)

The club and the studios were a few blocks away. The afternoon sessions were packed with Paramount stars. Packed. I think filming ended early every day all week that the tourney was in town. Mona was a lifelong fan. She was at Wimbledon with Big Boss and Geezer a few times. Even the year we lost Pancho Gonzales….

In the photo above Mona is acting as chair umpire for a match that included Judge Robert J. Kelleher. Happy birthday dear Mona! Wish we could have celebrated the day with you…
