RAONIC FALLS IN QUARTER-FINALS AT HALLE / RAONIC S’INCLINE EN QUARTS DE FINALE À HALLE

Toronto, June 10, 2011 – Milos Raonic’s run at his first grass court tournament came to an

end today after a 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-3 loss to Philipp Petzschner in the quarter-finals of the Gerry Weber Open in

Halle, Germany.

After falling behind 5-2 in the second set tiebreak, Raonic clawed back to force a third but ultimately fell to the

German player and home crowd favourite. Petzschner, world No. 71, fought off three break points while taking

two games off Raonic’s serve. He advances to the semifinals for the second consecutive year.

The loss drops Raonic’s 2011 record to 25-12. It was the world No. 28’s fourth quarter-final appearance on the

year following San Jose (champion), Memphis (finalist), and Estoril (semifinalist).

Raonic is still alive in doubles though, and he and partner Robin Haase of the Netherlands will play their

semifinal match later today against the Australian team of Lleyton Hewitt and Peter Luczak. It is scheduled to

begin no earlier than 10 :30 a.m. ET.

arrêté aujourd’hui à Halle, en Allemagne, alors qu’il s’inclinait 6-3, 6-7(6) et 6-3 aux mains de Philipp

Petzschner en quarts de finale du Gerry Weber Open.

Bien qu’il tirait de l’arrière 5-2 au bris d’égalité de la deuxième manche, Raonic a puisé dans ses réserves pour

forcer la tenue d’une manche ultime, mais a concédé la victoire au favori de la foule. Petzschner, 71e mondial, a

essuyé trois balles de bris tout en s’emparant du service de Raonic à deux reprises et atteint ainsi les demifinales

pour une deuxième année consécutive.

Raonic présente maintenant une fiche de 25 victoires et 12 défaites depuis le début de la saison 2011. Le

Canadien, qui occupe le 28e rang mondial, prenait part à son quatrième quart de finale après avoir conquis les

grands honneurs à San Jose. De plus, il était finaliste à Memphis et demi-finaliste à Estoril.

Raonic et son partenaire néerlandais Robin Hasse sont encore en lice en double et disputeront la demi-finale

un peu plus tard aujourd’hui contre les Australiens Lleyton Hewitt et Peter Luczak.
