14 Year Old Gabby Andrews Wins In Her First Pro Level Match at Carson USTA $50,000 Challenger  |

Gabby Andrews admitted it felt like any other match at just another tournament, but deep down she knew Tuesday was a special day.

There will undoubtedly be many, many more professional tournaments and victories for the 14-year-old wild-card Andrews of Pomona, Calif., who played – and won – in her first professional match in the first round at the Carson USTA Women’s $50,000 Challenger presented by the Farmers Classic at The Home Depot Center.

“I felt really loose and have just been playing with a lot of confidence,” said Andrews, who will also pick up her first world ranking points with her 6-4, 6-1 win over former four-year USC starter Amanda Fink, a 24-year-old and two-year Pro Circuit veteran from Calabasas, Calif., who is currently ranked No. 375 in the WTA world rankings. “It really just feels like any other tournament. I haven’t even looked at the draw. I don’t even know who I play next.”

Fink said she had never seen or heard of the talented Andrews, who is still an amateur and doesn’t turn 15 until December, before Tuesday. “She’s obviously got some game and will be do very well in the coming years,” Fink said. “She’s just a very solid player.”

Sixteen-year-old Krista Hardebeck of Santa Ana, the No. 7 seeded player and ranked No. 336 in the world, needed three sets to advance, beating former TCU player and Macall Harkins of Palos Verdes, Calif., 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

Qualifying concluded on Tuesday as 16-year-old Sachia Vickery, 15-year-old Taylor Townsend, Jessica Roland-Rosario and Elizabeth Ferris each earned spot into the main draw and will play opening-round matches on Wednesday.
