DJOKOVIC, BRYANS CROWNED CHAMPIONS FOR FOURTH TIME
• World No. 1 Novak Djokovic claims his third straight Barclays ATP World Tour Finals title and fourth season finale crown overall (also 2008 in Shanghai).
• He is the third player to win three straight year-end titles, after Ilie Nastase (1971-73) and Ivan Lendl (1985-87).
• The 27-year-old Serbian, the year-end No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Rankings for a third time (also 2011-12), finishes 2014 with seven titles from 11 finals.
• Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan claim their fourth season finale title in their sixth championship match at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.
• The top-seeded American twins capture their 103th team trophy. They have now clinched 10 or more tour-level titles in a single season on four occasions (also 2007, 2010, 2013).
WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID
Djokovic: “I’m not one of those players that celebrates these particular wins, but I have to reflect on the whole season. This trophy is definitely the crown for all the achievements that I had this year. I owe the credit to my team, to all the people who supported me all the way through. And plenty of joy. I’m very happy to be able to stand here and finish with this trophy.”
“I’m at my pinnacle in the career. I physically feel very fit. I’m very motivated to keep on playing on a very high level. So as long as it’s like that, I’m going to try to use these years in front of me to fight for No. 1 of the world and to fight for [the] biggest titles in the sport.”
Federer: “Unfortunately I’m not match fit to play the match tonight. Clearly I wish that it wasn’t so. I try all year to be ready for the [Barclays] ATP World Tour Finals, and I didn’t want it to end this way. But I tried everything I could last night, also today.”
“It’s been a great week for me. I played some great tennis. I love coming to The O2, to London. I’ve had so many great memories from here. Congrats, of course, to Novak who’s played an amazing season, amazing tournament here as well.”
Mike Bryan: “This is considered the fifth Slam, with the top eight teams in the world. To lose our first match and bounce back, barely qualify for the semi-finals, win today, was a great feeling.”
