Robin Soderling took out Frenchman Jo-WIlfried Tsonga to win the title yesterday at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam.
This is Soderling’s second successive title in Rotterdam. In last year’s final, the Swede defeated Russian Mikhail Youzhny. In 2008 Robin was runner-up and lost to Michael Llodra of France. This title is Soderling’s eight ATP World Tour title.
Soderling needed three sets to take out Tsonga 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. “I’ve had two wins and one final, it’s very good, I like it here a lot. It suits my game and when you come to a place where you’ve played well before it brings out good feelings,”Soderling said.
He is also very happy with the start of his 2011 season, “I’ve had a very good start to this season. I’ve already won two titles and only lost one match in three tournaments.”
The tall, slim Swedish man had to save a match point against Philip Kohlschreiber in the second round.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has not got a 0-4 record against Robin Soderling. Tsonga said, “Today I played better than in other matches against him. I played a good match today. It was difficult of course because he played unbelievable, he didn’t miss many things.”
Both Tsonga and Soderling will travel to Marseille to participate in the Open 13 starting on Monday.
Robin Soderling will take home €279 500.
