With two wins from three grass matches so far in Britain, Bernard Tomic is starting to feel optimistic about his tennis again, The 21-year-old Australian who underwent double hip surgery at the start of the year, did however have a complaint about noise distraction during his opening victory at Eastbourne over Andrey Golubev.
Tomic complained repeatedly to the chair about loud court announcement from an adjacent court which made him think they were actually coming from his own court.
After several round of consultations, he managed to get the volume level lowered on the other court at Devonshire Park, playing on for the 6-4, 6-4, win. “The calls from Court 1 were coming in, I thought half the time it was a let. It was very difficult. I didn’t know what was going on until I addressed the umpire, and he managed to turn down Court 1’s speaker system, because it was tough to play when you were hearing calls in the back.”
Overall, the No. 82 is pleased with his slow but steady progress. “I’ve worked on the last three or four days, so it’s good to see it’s coming good in the match. I’m very happy with that.”
