Birmingham Update
Former world-No. 1 and top-seed Ana Ivanovic had no problems in her second-round victory on Tuesday at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham, England.
In the grass-court Wimbledon tune-up, Ivanovic beat German Mona Barthel 6-4, 6-1 in a match played at Edgbaston Priory Club. Ivanovic looked more comfortable on the grass courts than she did on the cricket pitch. Check out Ivanovic and last year’s finalist Donna Vekic over the weekend here:
In other action involving seeded players: No. 12 Monica Puig, of Puerto Rico, defeated Swiss Stefanie Voegele 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 6-2; Aussie born but resident of Eastbourne Johanna Konta downed No. 14 Kurumi Nara, of Japan, 6-3, 6-1, and No. 16 Aussie Casey Dellacqua rolled over Pole Urszula Radwanska 6-1, 6-3.
Several other first-round winners included: Americans Christina McHale, Madison Keys, Lauren Davis, CoCo Vandeweghe and Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak.
Just a quick note. Today was amazing my morning started out leaving London and the tourney @ Queens to drive three hours to Birmingham. The ride was great , the site is great and my colleague lived here. So I’m so set. We had a few minutes to write this up before heading out to dinner. That was great too. We sat next to Martina Navratilova and she and I both ordered the yummy scallops. We are looking forward to our few days here. This is a great city. This is a great event. We are really impressed by the set up. Can’t wait to see friend “FLIP ” play. Kirsten Flipkens , we were together in Madrid and Rome. Cheers.
