ASICS EASTER BOWL MOVING TO INDIAN WELLS TENNIS GARDEN FOR 47th ANNUAL EVENT APRIL 5-13
INDIAN WELLS, Calif. (March 18, 2014) – The last ball has been struck at what turned out to be one of the most successful non-Grand Slam events in pro tennis history as the Indian Wells Tennis Garden gets set to next host America’s rising starts at the 47th annual ASICS Easter Bowl.
The iconic junior tournament started by Seena Hamilton in 1968 and now led by chairman Lornie Kuhle will take place April 5-13 at the site of the BNP Paribas Open, where more than 400,000 fans attended the 10-day event that ended on Sunday in the Coachella Valley.
Long considered the Super Bowl of junior tennis, the ASICS Easter Bowl took place at the Sunrise County Club in Rancho Mirage last year and before that was played at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort.
The Tennis Garden features 29 hard courts and hosts a number of tournaments and special events including the Big West Conference Championships, World Team Tennis National Championships, and USTA National Championships.
There are other changes in store. The 18’s will feature a 64-qualifying draw for the first time, which will take place on Saturday and Sunday, April 5-6. The main draw will start on Monday, April 7 and conclude on Sunday, April 13. The 18s is an ITF Grade B1 and USTA Level 1 event.
The 16’s, 14’s and 12’s will be four-day events taking place Thursday-Sunday with 64 singles draw and 32 doubles and is a USTA Level 1A designated tournament.
Since its inception in 1968, when Harold Solomon beat Jimmy Connors, the ASICS Easter Bowl has been noted not only for the hospitality given to players and parents, but for its far-reaching media exposure and for keeping all the game’s important issues in public view.
No other junior tennis tournament in the United States possesses the same rich history as the ASICS Easter Bowl. The tournament was started in New York City by Hamilton and has been played in Florida, Arizona and California.
