The International Premier Tennis League is close to its start by holding a player draft. The IPTL Player draft is set to be held March 2 at the Uberoi hotel in Dubai, the new unique platform which will see some notable men, women and past champions play as part of a teams in first-of-its-kind Asian tennis league.
It is a city/country based franchise-led league that aims to growing the presence of tennis in Asia, attract and maintain the level of interest and passion for this sport. The first season is set to take place between Nov 28 and Dec 20 with teams playing each other at home and away.
India’s Mahesh Bhupathi, who is behind this series, says he would like the sport’s top players to be drafted. Whether they will actually play is another question.(what does that mean?)……………
“We have worked extremely hard to get this off the ground,” he said. “I can’t say I am not nervous, but we are looking forward to seeing how the final teams shape out. I think it is a big day for our sports and the excitement is out there!”
Prashant Konner, owner of the Bangkok franchise, added: “We love sport and love tennis, owning a team is new to us but we want to make sure we give the fans in Thailand a great team so they can get behind us.”
