John McEnroe took a swing at doubles, saying he doesn’t understand why the game is still played. The American who built at least half of his tennis reputation on the team game three decades ago lashed out at the veterans year-end exhibition in London, where he also ventured predictions on the state of recovering Wimbledon winner Andy Murray.
Mac ventured that recovering Andy Murray may have needed a break from tennis when he underwent the September back surgery form which he is currently trying to re-hab in Florida.
‘Where he was mentally, he looked a bit burnt out at the US Open. a lot had happened in the last year. Maybe it was a good thing to regroup, maybe he needed that time physically and mentally – he probably did.”
