Juan Martin Del Potro calls his forehand his best shot and told El Pais that a mathematician friend of his coach did a study of it and claims it’s the most powerful one on tour. . . Broadcaster Gigi Salmon, a favorite of some on Radio Roland Garros and Wimbledon, made her BBC debut on Tuesday during the Rafael Nadal vs. David Ferrer match at the ATP World Tour Finals. . . . Carla Suarez Navarro reached a career-high No.14 in September and next year is aiming to win her first crown. “I’ve lacked a killer instinct in tournaments,” Suarez Navarro said. “I have a good knowledge of the opponents I’ve faced in those finals and I know what things I need to improve on in order to win titles as soon as possible. Chris Kermode, who is the managing director of the ATP World Tour Finals and the tournament director at Queens, is being talked up in a big way in London as the frontrunner for the ATP CEO job. . . Roger Federer disagrees with Rafael Nadal and says that he wants the ATP World Tour Finals to stay on the same surface – indoor hard. “I know there’s an argument to have it on clay, on grass, to have it outdoors — and I did play outdoors in Houston. I just feel indoors doesn’t have enough play. The indoor season is small. I believe indoors deserves a huge event, which this one is.” . . . ATP World Tour Finals tournament director Andre Silva thinks that will be difficult. “If it’s something the players want and can be done logistically, it’s something we can explore,” said Silva. “Even in the same place it would be pretty unique if you have all of a sudden one year on a hard court in London and the next year on a clay court. But it’s hard for players to switch surfaces.”
