First round set to wrap up at Rogers Cup presented by National Bank on Tuesday

TORONTO

Milos Raonic opened his Rogers Cup campaign with a straight-forward win over No.10 seed David Goffin. It was his first match since Wimbledon. He was joined in the second round by fellow Canadian Peter Polansky, who has now reached the second round six times on home soil.
Canadian teens Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov took on Kevin Anderson and Novak Djokovic in what was a packed doubles match on Grandstand. The youngsters fell in straight sets, but the four treated a standing-room-only crowd to a delightful afternoon doubles.
On Tuesday, three-time Slam champion and wild card recipient Stan Wawrinka meets Nick Kyrgios for a fifth time on tour, the pair having a 2-2 head-to-head leading in. It’s perhaps the most anticipated first -ound match of Rogers Cup this year.
Four-time winner here Novak Djokovic also plays Tuesday, the 13-time major title holder getting a test in young Korean Hyeon Chung who he lost to at the Australian Open in January.
Both Shapovalov and Auger-Aliassime are in action in singles Tuesday, as well. Shapovalov meets Jeremy Chardy – who he beat at Wimbledon – while Auger-Aliassime also has another Frenchman in Lucas Pouille.
Big names like Marin Cilic, Grigor Dimitrov, Kei Nishikori, Fabio Fognini and others are also in action on what is a packed day of play Tuesday in

MONTREAL

Monday featured a number of highly anticipated matches, including the return of Venus Williams to Montreal. The 2014 Rogers Cup finalist proved dominant over her compatriot Caroline Dolehide and booked her spot in the second round.
Two compatriots faced off in doubles, as the team of Eugenie Bouchard and Sloane Stephens caused the upset over the fifth seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and partner Yifan Xu. They could potentially faced the all-Canadian duo of Rebecca Marino and Carson Branstine in the following round.
Due to the weather conditions, there will be many feature matches on the schedule for Tuesday, including Victoria Azarenka against Kristina Mladenovic as well as the sixth seed Caroline Garcia who will oppose Magdalena Rybarikova. All the excitement kicks off at 11 a.m. on Centre Court, National Bank Court, in addition to Courts 2, 5 and 9.
Maria Sharapova and Alize Cornet unable to finish their matches, which have been moved to the Tuesday schedule. Sharapova was leading 4-1 in the first set over Sesil Karantantcheva while Cornet dropped the opening set against Tatjana Maria, but was leading 2-1 in the second before pay was interrupted.
Three Canadians will be in singles action on Tuesday, as Eugenie Bouchard takes on Elise Mertens, Françoise Abanda opposes Kirsten Flipkens and Carol Zhao faces off against Kiki Bertens.

Deux Canadiennes s’affrontaient en double. Eugenie Bouchard et Sloane Stephens ont causé une surprise en battant les cinquièmes têtes de série Gabriela Dabrowski et sa partenaire Yifan Xu. Au deuxième tour, elles pourraient croiser le fer avec le tandem canadien composé de Rebecca Marino et de Carson Branstine.
La pluie ayant forcé le report de plusieurs matchs, le programme de mardi sera fort intéressant et comprendra, notamment, Victoria Azarenka contre Kristina Mladenovic ainsi que Caroline Garcia (6e) face à Magdalena Rybarikova. Les jeunes Félix Auger-Aliassime et Denis Shapovalov ont croisé le fer avec Kevin Anderson et Novak Djokovic dans un Grandstand plein à craquer. Les deux adolescents se sont inclinés en deux manches, mais les quatre joueurs ont offert un magnifique spectacle de double.
Jeudi, Stan Wawrinka, détenteur de trois couronnes de Grands Chelems et récipiendaire d’un laissez-passer pour la Coupe Rogers, affrontera Nick Kyrgios pour la cinquième fois. Les deux rivaux possèdent une fiche de deux victoires l’un contre l’autre. C’est possiblement le duel de premier tour le plus attendu à Toronto.
Novak Djokovic, quadruple champion de la Coupe Rogers, sera en action en simple, mardi, alors qu’il tentera de se départir du jeune Sud-Coréen Hyeon Chung qui l’avait battu aux Internationaux d’Australie, en janvier dernier.
Shapovalov et Auger-Aliassime reviendront aussi sur le terrain mardi, mais cette fois, en simple. Shapovalov sera opposé au Français Jérémy Chardy — contre qui il avait gagné à Wimbledon — alors qu’Auger-Aliassime se mesurera à Lucas Pouille, un autre Français.
D’autres joueurs bien connus, comme Marin Cilic, Grigor Dimitrov, Kei Nishikori, Fabio Fognini seront également les vedettes de la journée à Toronto.
