TIDBITS Of Info •

• Both Tourneys MAX won in 2018 he was coached by his daughters. In New York it was coach Melanie and in HOUSTON it was coach PETRA! Bravo girls!

– Max Mirnyi and Philipp Oswald won their second title of 2018 and third overall on Saturday. It was the 52nd title of Mirnyi’s career in his 97th final. Oswald is a champion for the eighth time, and was contesting his 12th final.

– Andre Begemann and Antonio Sancic finished as runner-up after playing together for the first time. Begemann was playing in his 10th final while Sancic was playing his third.

– The 62nd presentation of the Ernest Langston Sportsmanship Trophy took place Saturday, with six players sharing the honor. Steve Johnson accepted the award on behalf of himself, Bob Bryan, Mike Bryan, John Isner, Sam Querrey and Frances Tiafoe. Those six players personally donated to the Houston Tennis Association to help resurface hurricane damaged courts at Sunnyside Park, and they each took time to visit after-school clinics at the park while in Houston this week. It is the second time receiving the honors for both the Bryan brothers and Isner.

• On Saturday, tournament organizers presented a check for $50,000 to the Pediatric Trauma Unit at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. The funds were raised through the Ticket Turnback Program, a ticket resale effort with all proceeds being donated to the hospital. Since 2009, the program has raised over $245,000 for charity.

Editors Note: The “Ticket Turnback” program raised $50,000. Why don’t all tourney do that to help raise money for charity? We are proud of Houston! We are also really proud of Max Mirnyi at 40 years young inspired by the likes of “TommyBoy” that he is still gracing a tennis court. Sharing it with his amazing daughters is the icing on the cake. The Mirnyi family is truly one of the most loved on the ATP tour. Max play till you are 100…
