Nick Kyrgios Awarded US Clay Wild Card
Australian Completes Field For April’s River Oaks Tournament
Australia’s Nick Kyrgios has been awarded a wild card for the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship which will take place April 7-15 at River Oaks Country Club.
Kyrgios opened 2018 by winning the title on home soil in Brisbane, his fourth career ATP title. Kyrgios had a 9-2 record this season heading into a third round match in Miami Monday afternoon.
“Nick is an electrifying player and we are thrilled he is able to join us in April.” Said Tournament Director Bronwyn Greer. “Being able to add an international star with a high ranking is fantastic way to fill out our field, and gets us ever more energized for play to begin in less than two weeks.”
In 2016, Kyrgios won a career-best 39 matches and three ATP titles. He backed that up with 31 wins last season and a pair of runner-up finishes, including at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati.
At 22-years-old, Kyrgios is the sixth player in the 2018 US Clay field aged 23 or younger.
Currently No. 20 in the world, Kyrgios joins a US Clay field that includes four other players currently in the Top 20 of the Emirates ATP Rankings – Kevin Anderson (No. 8), Jack Sock (No. 11), Sam Querrey (No. 14) and John Isner (No. 17).
Kyrgios is the third wild card to be announced, joining Dustin Brown and Ernesto Escobedo in the field. This completes the initial field of 24 players for the 2018 tournament, with four other players to be added through a two-round qualifying tournament April 7-8 at River Oaks.
