10SBALLS SALUTES THE U.S. NAVY FOR HONORING JOSEPH RAPHAEL HUNT TENNIS CHAMPION WITH A COLLEGE EVENT  |

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men’s tennis team had an outstanding weekend at the Joe Hunt Invitational hosted by the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. The squad saw three singles players win their flights as well as two doubles teams from the Hilltop.

 

In the A flight, senior Peter Beatty (Portland, Ore./Middlesex School) ran his way through the flight going 4-0 including a 7-5, 6-4 victory in the final. He battled to get there with a 6-7 (4), 7-6 (6), 6-1 win over Andrew Ton from Navy in the semifinal.

 

The C flight was won by freshman Connor Lee who cruised through the bracket going 4-0, all in two sets. He defeated Matthew Lee from Navy in the final by a score of 7-5, 6-4.

 

The D flight guaranteed a Hoya winner with junior Michael Chen (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) and freshman Charlie Sharton (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) battling in the final for the title. It was Sharton who eventually came out on top with the 6-4, 7-6 (5) victory. Taking third in the flight was freshman Luke Ross (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Dustin Britton from Delaware.

 

In doubles play, the pair of Chen and Lee took the B flight defeating a duo from Mary Washington in the final by a score of 7-6 (4). The C flight was won by Ross and junior Will Sharton (Wayland, Mass./Wayland). The pair defeated teammates sophomore Josh Marchalik (East Brunswisk, N.J./East Brunswick/Amherst) and senior Mac Rechan (Clayton, Mo./Clayton) by a score of 6-4.

 

Overall, Georgetown went 30-11 in singles and 16-3 in doubles for the tournament.

 

The Hoyas will be back in action on Oct. 20-22 as the squad travels to Lynchburg, Va., for ITA Regionals.
