If you are not a current tennis player playing in this decade than you should have only small if any input on the current format.

The world has changed. The current players know what they like and don’t like. They know the pain and the pleasure. They know The agony of winning. Yes, I said winning. It’s heartbreaking to win… To then have to defend the title 6 weeks later?

Now that’s an easy change. Make a “challenge round.” What’s a challenge round ? It’s where the winning team stays in the finals for that year and everyone else plays off to play them.

These guys have a crazy schedule already. To squeeze in Davis Cup is so difficult. It’s So totally draining and exhausting. It’s a tough schedule. You arrive the week before. The team is jetlagged they flown in from all corners of the globe. They have practices. Dinners. Team motivations. More dinners. More practice. More sponsor events.

Then Friday. Sat. Sunday the brutality of 3/5 sets on some unknown surface with strange balls. With strange conditions. Wow. Sounds like most weeks. But way more stress.

It did in Max Mirnyi as a singles player. Max and his childhood Belarussian friend Vladimir Voltchkov were a two man Davis Cup team for years. It was a lots of hours in court over three days for two guys.

Tennis players live in a constant state of jet lag. Their lives are that of road warriors / gladiators. We love Davis Cup. We know how important it is to the world of tennis. The world. To possible World Peace.

It opens doors. It leaves doors open. Think of Gene Scott and the Kremlin Cup. It helped Russian /U.S. relations.

When you can give even tiny nations a shot at bringing tennis to the people , it changes things for the better.

Look at this weeks doubles globally tennis is the best sport on earth. The best. In doubles you have players as teams.

Israel / Sweden

France / AUSTRALIA

Mexico/ AUSTRALIA

USA / Mexico

Columbia/ Philippines

POLAND/Serbia

Belarus/ Austria

Uruguay / Argentina

Netherlands / Great Britain

Russia/ Argentina

New Zealand/ BRASIL

Chile/ Belarus

Tennis can help us find World Peace. Tennis brings US ALL together. But we need our teams too for our countries. But it can’t be such a “hardship”. Let the players decide. They are the ones that know what they can handle.

PS. The Suits are Meeting as we write this….
