I have never attended a tennis court at any event where there isn’t a crowd for Roger Federer. It really doesn’t matter, it can be a practice court, doubles match or his regular on court match. I remember in Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open, when the officials unexpectedly changed his scheduled practice a different court, fans had filled the stands and the surroundings – there was chanting/cheering and Federer wasn’t even on the court. Once the word got out that he was switched to a different court the, “fan migration” began. So, at the Miami Open match of Roger Federer vs Juan Martin Del Potro there was no exception. The stadium was filled!
Federer of course, played great tennis. He makes it look easy and effortlessly. Returning everything, moving Del Potro, serving big and ultimately winning the match 6/3, 6/4. He has played many epic matches against Juan, today it did not seem to be a very hard day in the office for Federer. When asked about his match Federer said,
“ For me, I mean, I felt like I was in control and I was able to generate more chances than he did… “
The crowds have him as a favorite to win the whole Miami Open.
Federer is one very special tennis player. He has fans that don’t know anything about tennis – they just come out to appreciate the way he plays. He is a very likable person. We saw some kids crying of happiness because they were able to get his autograph after the match! We can only imagine how hard it is to be his opponent in any stadium – knowing that he is feeding from the crowd’s cheers and positive energy. So far at the Miami Open, Federer seems unstoppable.
