In Miami, let’s go to the Coconut Grove! We met up with Kirsten Flipkens and had dinner. She greeted us with a warm friendly smile the minute she spotted us. We made our way to the table as she told us her favorite meal is sushi, seems that most of the pros love sushi or pasta, quite at the different ends of the food spectrum…
Kirsten also mentioned and showed us one of her favorite renditions of Buddha from artist Metis Atash. Which, I found very insightful and gave us a feel as to how she manages to stay very “zen” on the court. The Buddha looks serene yet depicted edgy by the artist.
Her calamity gives her a powerful edge helping maintain balance on the court while providing intense slices. She hits directly and powerfully but also keeps a persevering stance. She spots her opponents pattern and tunnel visions towards her.
At the Miami Open, Flipkens was defeated by Dominika Cibulkova. Kirsten played her game well but, due to sudden rainfall the play was delayed… Once play resumed Cibulkova just kept returning everything.
Here are Kirsten’s Thoughts:
As inspiring as she is on the court, she is also quite the designer, in fact she designed the sportswear for the Belgium’s woman’s Fed Cup team and for everyday wear.
The “Big Boss Phebes” loves the charisma Kirsten brings every time they meet. Being one of her fans for her play and designs. We also hope to meet again and to gain more insight.
