The Tennis Podcast Launches Kickstarter To Crowdfund 2017 Season
The Tennis Podcast, a downloadable tennis radio show, has launched a crowdfunding campaign with Kickstarter to continue the show in 2017, with more episodes planned than ever before.
The podcast, which has been downloaded more than 2.5 million times since it began production in May 2012, hopes to raise at least £10,000 to continue in the new year. A daily show at the Grand Slam tournaments, successfully trialled at Wimbledon and the US Open this year, will be added to the weekly offering if subsequent funding goals are reached. There are also plans for a website, blogs, Periscope sessions and merchandising in the future.

Pledges of support can start at £10 for the podcast, which has produced more than 260 free episodes since inception. There are higher value categories for people wishing to support the weekly and Grand Slam daily shows, and to have the name of their choice in an episode’s opening. The highest value category of support enables a limited number of contributors to take on the show’s presenters in a 2017 Tennis Podcast predictions tournament.
The podcast is produced and hosted by BBC Radio 5 Live and BT Sport commentator David Law, and Eurosport presenter Catherine Whitaker.
Law said: “The Tennis Podcast has always been, and continues to be a labour of love, but if we want it to continue and grow, which we do, we need some help to fund it. Advertising and sponsorship has helped a little recently, but it isn’t enough on its own and we are hoping that those who listen regularly will also want to pitch in.”
Whitaker added: “As much as we love producing The Tennis Podcast, it does take time, effort and expense to put together. The way people have responded to the show over the years has encouraged us to believe that we can gain sufficient support to meet our funding goals.”
