U.S.Open Tennis 2016 Review/Wrap

Whew. New York City. The city that never sleeps. The traffic. The trash. The humidity. The sirens blaring. The taxi cabs honking. It wouldn’t be “the city” it is without that? Don’t know… Ok… Here we go. We start with our prediction for the men’s finals/ we got one right Stan the Man in four sets!

10sBalls Editors Note: Lovey Jergens pick is Stan the Man in Four sets. Maybe 3 sets. But whatever. We are Choosing Stan who is mentally stronger than Novak.

We are surprised with Novaks apparent loss of focus why he spreads himself thinner by taking on the position of head of The ATP players council.

He already has his foundation, his great restaurant in Monte Carlo he has a beautiful wife and little toddler a few poodles and a more than a dozen other interests and responsibilities…. That’s besides all his training time, playing time, practice time, hyperbaric chamber time, oxygen tent and massage time. Sponsor responsibilities. Recovery time. Family time. Lots of juggling. We wish both players good luck.

And in our opinion ATP meetings are a total drain of energy and achieve almost nothing. Just saying.

How about Bethanie Mattek Sands…. What a great summer she has had. Her decades of hard work {blood, sweat and tears and Kazillions of 10sBalls hit} and rehab and therapy are finally over!

Now she gets to show the world what a gifted athlete she is. She won GOLD in Mixed Doubles in RIO. And then the Gold Medalist won the Ladies Doubles with Lucie Safarova at the 2016 U.S. Open… Wow… Really BIG WOW! They fought their hearts out! ️Bravo for Team # Bucie

Bethanie has the most amazing eye to ball contact and really fast hands, especially at the net. Her positive energy is infectious.

We sure wish the folks that run the Open would allow the fans to sit in the lower bowl during the match. No one should play any finals like that. Totally shocking to see the crowds up in the upper bowls. The fans would move back to their seats after the match or let any ticket holder have their assigned seat. Common sense…. no?

We noticed Bethanie has some new sponsors. We seriously already ordered the gluten free meter. Justin can you help speed our order up?….. @nimasensor… And we can’t wait to try the skin care products. @sweetspotlabs…. We Love all natural ingredients….. Really excited…. Are you sponsoring the socks? Where does one buy those?

U.S.C. Trojans Tennis Team led by coach Peter Smith spent the weekend in Tijuana Mexico building a family a home. Yes it’s true. Bravo coach. The team is in Southern California. They get teased that the USC stands for University of Spoiled Children. Or Snoop Dog calls it the University of South central. I call it my sweethearts alma mater.

One of the best and most meaningful weekends of my life building this house with the boys for a family that was so deserving. An eye opening experience! #mexico – Photo by @brandon_holt98 via Instagram.

What the coach did with his players is character building. Teamwork building and what an awesome way to spend 60 odd hours changing a family of four lives forever. They literally built it from the cement foundation up. The family now has a home with electricity. Heat and air and running water. Wow.

All we can say is college coaches get your teams to help others in need and just Maybe pro athletes might be less bratty and more humble and thoughtful.

Any sport. All sports.

Alright last photo – the team with our new family. – Photo by @coachpetersmith via Instagram.

Next subject. Tennis. What has happened to this sport? Stadiums are way too big.. When a tennis player looks to be the size of a carpenter ant… Might as well just stay home watch on your flat screen TV.

Ticket prices are crazy. Fans never factored into the equation of the players prize money. That was the sponsors job. Sponsors need to Cough up money…. TV. Cough up money….. Tennis fans don’t get value for their money. Prices are way toooooo high to see tennis live.

We were talking about “Common Sense”… But it rarely exists in the tennis world. Especially in Flushing…. There’s too much cronyism, nepotism, favoritism… If you take a job in tennis the first requirement should be. You love the sport. You like the sport. It’s that simple. Be happy to be part of the tennis world and treat all people fairly. What an interesting point of view. Huh Peggy? Concept. Like it or leave it. It’s really that simple. Way too many peeps don’t like tennis. But it’s their job. And to them. It’s just a JOB….

Will Orlando have more vampires? The same vampires? New vampires? I used to call them “undertakers” but that’s only the LOSERS that lose tennis tourneys and shrink the sport.

Doesn’t NYC have any other CELEBS than all the usual suspects? It’s 50 odd regular invitees….

I guess my invite got lost in the mail…. Once I actually did get an invite into the Presidents Club…. I did but that was before I had a website and let my opinion fly… Did I go? Nope. The bookstore was beckoning. That was a rare treat versus some stuffy Presidents Box. I happen to be blessed with a great looking mother who looks younger than me so…. we swapped places. She loved the presidents Club. She still talks about it today.

In closing: Thanks to Penny and Judy / The Taste Of Tennis was fantastic. Thanks to the concierge staff at the Open in the players lounge for all the great tables at all the great restaurants. Thank you Stacey Allistair for the hospitality and the desserts.

Thanks also to Bethanie, Justin, Misa, Martin, Dusan, Global Chick, Pancho, Louise, The Mirnyi Clan, Rudy, Bertha and Ellen Perez for sharing her first experience at the OPEN with us. Thank you Ricky Dimon and Alejandro who worked around the clock with me. Special thanks always to MORI at Take Out Marketing!!!

Frankie you are just Mr. Everything! You are the glue that holds us all together. You are the air traffic controller that keeps us all at the right altitude and speed and usually direction.

Thanks team 10sBalls – we did it again! Our 6th. One!

P.S. Gene Scott would be very very proud of The Website and the continued devotion to the game? Sport? Tennis… whichever it is?

Our favorite doubles player in the world.. Max Mirnyi!!

The only way to describe this U.S. open is soaking wet without raining... It's really hard to play tennis when your socks are soaking wet and you are "sloshing" in your shoes. Your shoes get really heavy when they get wet.
